A long, long time ago, there lived in the village of Kataguman a young person named Isganan. One day, Isganan went to look for the learned creature called Wisdom. He wanted to learn from Wisdom how to be wise. Isganan searched far and wide yet failed in finding Wisdom.
Luckily for Isaganan, he heared that Wisdom was a friend of Agurang Onyo, the wise man of Kataguman. So, Isganan went to see Agurang Onyo and told the old man his desire to learn from Wisdom.
When Agurang Onyo heard Isganan's purpose, he said "Wisdom was here this morning. But alas, he left a while ago. You must have met him on the road," Agurang Onyo said.
"I only met three persons," The young man answered back. "The first person I met was a bore. She hardly said a word when I greeted her. I did not relish being with her. It's eerie.
"The second person I met was a rude man who kept on pointing out my weaknesses. I left him in a hurry. He was disgusting.
"However, the third person I met was a delightful old man. He was well dressed and good mannered. He told me a lot of entertaining stories in the short meeting we had. And…"
"Which one was Wisdom?"
"All of them!" Agurang Onyo answered. "You see Wisdom has three disguises. The first one you met was Kalinong, the silent one. She teaches that people could learn by contemplating and observing. Most people didn't learn much from her since they were impatient. If only people would stay with Kalinong a little longer, they would learn a lot."
"But how could the second person I met be Wisdom? He was rude," Isganan asked, obviously confused.
"Well, he is Kamatuoran, the truth seeker. People dislike Kamatuoran for showing them what they would rather ignore. Just like you, people shun away from Wisdom when he comes as Kamatuoran."
"I don't need to explain a lot about the third person, since you were delighted with him," Agurang Onyo continued. "He is Manunugid, the storyteller. He has countless of parables from which one can learn many things, and most people love him."
Thus, Isganan understood and he went home cheerfully knowing he could recognize Wisdom in any of his personas. Isganan indeed became wise, and lived happily for the rest of his long life.
